I had no plan to do a shoe-of-the-day post, but when I flipped my calendar page today and found this 1997 slithering snake sandal emblazoned with the distinctive overlapping YSL logo, I thought I’d give props to the late, influential designer, Yves Saint Laurent.

The fanciful shoes of Beverly Feldman garnered several entries in Workman Publishing’s 2008 Page-a-Day Shoes calendar and the fine folks at her Manhattan store gifted me with a copy. From the works of 17th century anonymous Italian cobblers to current designers such as Beverly, each day displays an interesting shoe design. How apropos that my birthday page would feature something vintage, which I love (Awano, 1950′s); and somewhat fairytale, which is very Piscean.

As I child I eschewed “regular” Mary Janes in favor of those with a T-strap and I still have a fondness for the vertically bisected foot. A modern-day Cindy would, however, probably appreciate a higher heel, a sleeker vamp and a mirrored sole to go with her bling…
