Summer Sundaze
August 1, 2008

This Sunday offers a couple of musical choices for New Yorkers to get lifted in the post-church hours.  In Central Park, from three to seven pm at the sure-to-be teeming Summerstage, Giant Step is presenting a sonic melange of genres with Jamie Lidell, Janelle Monáe, Little Jackie, Jose James and global DJ, Gilles Peterson.

Appealing to those wishing for euphonic release and a bit of elbow room, there’s the inaugural jam (also from 3-7pm) of Harlemite-by-way-of-the-UK, DJ Stormin’s Sundae Sermon, a soul-satisfying house music party in the park–Morningside, that is, at 114th.  There’s plans to keep it going with parties scheduled for August 17 and September 7 as well.

And the Rockets’ Red Glare

Okay, so I had a great holiday weekend, but my one regret was missing Janelle Monáe perform on Saturday at the AfroPunk Festival — walking distance from my house, no less.
